We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scientific Assistant to join our team at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). As a Scientific Assistant, you will be responsible for conducting research in the field of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, with a focus on improving the sustainability, energy efficiency, and safety of industrial processes.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, construct, and experiment with a modularized platform that incorporates a magnetic levitation system into a rare-earth containing particle-laden two-phase system.
- Implement a microelectrode array-based electric impedance/resistivity tomography measurement system module and calibrate it with optical imaging.
- Advance modeling of the physical picture of the two-phase system within the magnetic levitation system, correlating measurement system data with key parameters for rare-earth separation.
- Acquire supervised machine learning knowledge and prepare to implement and evaluate AI-based data processing systems for extracting key parameters for rare-earth separation.
- Demonstrate the developed system to interested industrial partners and assist with the commercialization of collected data and parameters.
- Completed university studies in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on electronic design, precision measurement instruments, or fluid dynamics.
- Strong experimental skills, organized work style, and prior knowledge or expertise in electric impedance or resistivity tomography.
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics involving particles, magnetism, and PCB design, as well as experience with National Instruments products and sensor technology.
- Strong coding skills for data processing, modeling, and an interest in supervised machine learning.
