International Export Compliance Counsel

In a global setting, as a key member of our central Export Control team, the Export Control Legal Counsel is responsible for ensuring adherence to relevant export control laws and regulations. This includes negotiating agreements with business partners, addressing legal matters related to Export Control, facilitating the implementation of internal procedures, and developing comprehensive training programs for various stakeholders.
The Export Control Legal Counsel reports directly to the Head of Export Control, assisting in the ongoing improvement of the Internal Compliance Program (ICP) of Vitesco Technologies from a legal standpoint.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Ongoing analysis and monitoring of evolving export control and sanction laws across jurisdictions (EU, US, and others).
- Negotiating agreements with business partners and managing legal issues related to Export Control.
- Contributing to the continuous enhancement of our Internal Compliance Program.
- Overseeing regular risk assessments of global locations and collaborating with Export Control Coordinators and Specialists to implement necessary countermeasures, including communication at the management level.
- Assessing the potential impact of geopolitical developments on our operations, communicating associated risks within the organization, and adjusting internal processes as needed.
- Assisting the Head of Export Control in optimizing internal strategies concerning Export Control matters.
- Formulating and executing policies, guidelines, and instructions.
- Providing legal support to the Export Control team, Export Control Coordinators, and business functions.
- Maintaining regular communication with relevant experts, interfaces, and coordinators across regions and collaborating with other regional specialists.
- Designing and implementing an up-to-date training program for employees involved in Export Control matters and supporting Export Control specialists in delivering training.
- Assisting in the monitoring and integration of new legal entities and locations.
- Supporting export compliance investigations and implementing necessary corrective actions.
- Assisting in compliance assessments and audits; participating in investigations and supporting the implementation of corrective measures.
Your qualifications include:
- A completed university degree in law.
- Several years of proven experience in international import/export and trade compliance.
- Legal expertise in EU and US Export Controls and Sanctions compliance is essential.
- Knowledge of Customs compliance and HS classification is a plus.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken; proficiency in German is advantageous.
- Your integrity, communication skills, and intercultural awareness enable you to collaborate effectively across departments and develop best-in-class trade compliance practices.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Capability to navigate complex and conflicting situations.
- A strong team player.
