Are you enthusiastic about deriving valuable insights from extensive datasets? We are seeking a skilled (Senior) Data Engineer - Backend to enhance our Data Team.

This role is available full-time (40 hours) or part-time (32 hours or more) within a hybrid working model.

gutefrage GmbH operates the largest question and answer platform in the German-speaking region, facilitating user interactions on diverse topics. Our platform engages approximately 1.5 million users daily, generating around 6,000 new inquiries, responses, and comments.

Key Responsibilities

What will your role entail?

  • Enhancing the Backend for our established internal Data Products, with a focus on our Recommender Systems.
  • Selecting effective and dependable Software Solutions that ensure scalability and robustness.
  • Creating ETL Jobs utilizing our proprietary tracking system to gain deeper insights into user behavior.
  • Conducting BI tasks such as on-demand analyses and dashboard creation.
  • Overseeing Streaming Jobs that manage real-time data processing.
  • Supporting the deployment of Machine Learning Models on our platform.
  • Collaborating closely with team members, fellow developers, and product management.

Technologies We Utilize:

Python, Scala, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, Redis, Thrift, Docker, MySQL, AWS (Glue, Athena, EMR, S3), Terraform, Airflow, PyTorch, Streamlit, FastAPI

Required Qualifications

What skills are essential for this position?

  • Proficiency in Backend Development, especially in Microservices (including Thrift, RPC, Service Discovery, Scaling).
  • Strong command of at least one of the following programming languages: Scala, Java, or Python.
  • Experience with Data Infrastructures such as Elasticsearch, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Data Warehousing.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and experience in agile teams.
  • Willingness to explore and adopt new technologies and processes.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in German (B2/C1 level) and a desire to enhance language skills.
