Lead Chemical Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Lead Chemical Engineer to join our team at Radical Dot. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading our efforts in scaling up our breakthrough technology to recycle mixed plastic waste into key chemical building blocks.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious start-up, where you will have the freedom to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
Key Responsibilities- Short-term goals: Establish our first 'end-to-end-lab' technology scale up to process ~1 kg plastic waste/batch, overseeing safety protocols, assembly and construction, equipment procurement, process design, assembly and construction.
- Medium-term goals: Establish our first 'out-of-the-lab' technology scale up to process 0.1-1 ton/day on a 24/7 continuously, overseeing site and partner selection, process design, construction, and equipment acquisition.
- Enhance our understanding: of chemical engineering design choices to inform our vision and strategy.
- Industry collaborations: Engage, set up and maintain key industry collaborations and partners, including exploring options for new partnerships.
- Team leadership: Build and mentor a team of outstanding chemical engineers, with ambitious growth plans over the next 3 years.
- Pilot construction: Engage in some practical pilot construction work, facilitating a transition to a more managing and strategic role over time.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the Head of Research and their team in the mindset of 'one team'.
- Experience: 5 years of experience in chemical engineering, including industry experience (chemical or petrochemical industry). Experience in a start-up environment is a plus.
- Reactor and process design: Reactor and process design and procurement experience required.
- System scale up: Experience in system scale up is required, which may include scaling of reactors/reactions, separation, or distillation units in the chemical industry.
- Problem-solving: Problem anticipation and creative problem-solving skills.
- Team leadership: Team leadership, supervision, and development.
- Quantitative determination: Ability to navigate scaling parameter and quantitative determination such as mass transport, rheology/viscosity, kinetics, filtration, distillation, recrystallisation.
- Background: Background in chemical recycling, high pressure reactions, or corrosive environment is beneficial.
- Software skills: Experience with ASPEN (or related process design software), techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle analysis (LCA) is a plus.
- Language: Proficiency in English is required, German is a plus.
