About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team at Large Space Structures GmbH. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions for our space technology projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement design concepts for space-related projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address design challenges and opportunities.
  • Design and develop 3D CAD models, detailed part and assembly drawings, and parts lists using SolidWorks.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to project teams, ensuring timely and within-budget project delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of technical reports, presentations, and design documentation.
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain Manager to define procurement requirements and ensure delivery of components as per project schedule.
  • Take ownership of designs and interact with project partners to optimize designs and interfaces.
  • Coordinate with the Analysis team to facilitate validation of designs through FEA.
  • Liaise with the Manufacturing and Assembly team to provide detailed work instructions and inputs.
  • Manage and handle design documentation with proper configuration control using SolidWorks PDM.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in design engineering, preferably in European space or aerospace projects.
  • Excellent English language skills (oral and written), German is beneficial but not necessary.
  • Eligibility to work in the EU without restriction.
  • Ability to learn quickly and use initiative to understand complex designs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience in mechanical design of structures, including composite materials, and design of metal and CFRP components.
  • Familiarity with space projects and ESA and ECSS standards is highly desirable.
