Research Scientist in Population Health

Position Overview: The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate closely with Dr. Pascal Geldsetzer and a team of experts at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health and Stanford University. This role involves leading significant analyses of extensive electronic health record datasets to assess the real-world effectiveness of various medications, lifestyle recommendations, and health service interventions on health outcomes and system performance.
Research Focus: The datasets utilized will originate from multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, USA, Denmark, and Germany. The research team engages in a diverse array of studies, emphasizing medication effectiveness, health services research, and population health challenges. Methodologies employed include quasi-experimental designs, descriptive epidemiology, and randomized controlled trials.
Opportunities for Development: The postdoctoral researcher will have the chance to mentor PhD, Master's, and Dr. med students, contributing to their academic growth. Additionally, there may be opportunities to teach within the institute's Master's and doctoral programs, although this is not a mandatory requirement.
Compensation and Benefits: The salary is structured according to the German TV-L system, which governs public service employee remuneration. Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree with a strong foundation in quantitative research or relevant experience
- Experience with quasi-experimental methodologies is advantageous
- Proficient coding skills in R, Stata, or similar statistical software
- Effective communication skills in English (German language skills are not required)
