Senior IT Systems Engineer - Core Infrastructure Services

We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our IT Operations team at EMBL. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and developing several essential core services within our large-scale, high-performance IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and administration of enterprise directory, identity and access management systems
  • Design and administration of monitoring and alerting systems
  • Management of corporate messaging and email services
  • Coordination and oversight of development projects with the WebDev Team
  • Technology evaluations and rapid prototyping
  • Tracking and documenting support events and infrastructure development to ensure excellent service quality and end-user satisfaction
  • Continuous improvement of our IT infrastructure and support process based on the needs of EMBL users and stakeholders
Requirements:
  • A degree in computer science or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in managing a medium to large-sized heterogeneous IT environment
  • Experience in using technologies such as NetApp, IBM TSM, MySQL, Cisco ESA, LDAP, Zabbix, FreeRADIUS, Ansible, and VMware
  • Familiarity with protocols like DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IMAP, SQL, and AAI
  • Solid experience in Linux system administration
  • Advanced Perl/Python/Shell scripting skills
  • Basic knowledge of networking and IT security
  • A service-oriented attitude, good communication skills, and excellent knowledge of English
