Core Infrastructure Services Engineer

About the Role
This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the IT team at Embl-Ebi as a Senior IT Systems Engineer - Core Infrastructure Services. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing and administering enterprise directory, identity and access management systems, as well as monitoring and alerting systems.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and administer enterprise directory, identity and access management systems to ensure secure and efficient access to IT resources.
- Design and administer monitoring and alerting systems to provide real-time visibility into IT infrastructure performance and security.
- Manage corporate messaging systems to ensure reliable and secure communication.
- Co-manage high-end data storage, backup, and archiving infrastructure to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Coordinate and oversee development projects with the WebDev Team to ensure timely and successful delivery.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve IT infrastructure and support processes.
- Track and document support events and infrastructure development to ensure excellent service quality and end-user satisfaction.
- Continuously improve IT infrastructure and support processes based on user and stakeholder needs.
Requirements
- A degree in computer science or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in managing medium to large-sized heterogeneous IT environments.
- Experience with technologies such as NetApp, IBM TSM, MySQL, Cisco ESA, LDAP, Zabbix, FreeRADIUS, Ansible, and VMware.
- Familiarity with protocols like DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IMAP, SQL, and AAI.
- Solid experience in Linux system administration.
- Advanced scripting skills in Perl, Python, or Shell.
- Basic knowledge of networking and IT security.
- A service-oriented attitude, good communication skills, and excellent knowledge of English.
- German language skills are a plus.
