We are seeking a Backend Team Lead with a product-oriented mindset to join us at Candis. This role combines hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities. You will play a crucial role in translating intricate product requirements into actionable technical solutions while also mentoring and guiding a team to achieve consistent performance and growth. This position demands not only profound technical expertise but also strong leadership skills to cultivate a collaborative and supportive team atmosphere. Your contributions will directly influence the efficiency, quality, and innovation of our development processes, driving the success of our product and team.
Why is this role essential?
We require a Backend Team Lead to assist in converting product requirements into deliverables while bringing expertise in developing SaaS solutions. This position is vital for enhancing our development processes, release cycles, and continuous feedback mechanisms. Furthermore, you will support team members in their professional growth and development while improving collaboration within the team and across departments, ensuring smoother workflows and more efficient project delivery.

What are the primary challenges?
Key challenges include owning a product work-stream and leading a team responsible for a specific domain. You will need to navigate our domain-service based architecture, tracing and resolving issues that likely span our tech stack from one end to the other. This necessitates a deep understanding of system design and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize performance issues. Additionally, fostering a collaborative, ego-free environment and contributing to your team members' professional growth are crucial for building a united and high-performing team.
What will be accomplished in six months?
Within six months, you will have become a key and valued member of the team, advancing backend implementations and making significant improvements in our product development. Decisions would be made on implementation strategies based on product requirements. You will have actively shared knowledge within the team and the broader backend chapter, proposing best practices for maintainable and extendable systems.
By continuing to nurture our collaborative environment, conducting code reviews and one-on-ones for feedback, you will empower the team's skills and support them in their progression.
Lastly, you will make substantial contributions to our processes, such as enhancing on-call management, refining feedback loops, and developing robust testing strategies. Your efforts after six months will result in a more efficient development process and a higher quality product.
What qualifications will best equip you for this role?
Fluent in English to communicate effectively with your team and the wider organization. Strong understanding of collaboration between Team Lead, Product Manager, and Product Designer. You are an experienced leader with a product-oriented mindset, skilled at leading teams of 4-5 members with confidence to support their professional growth. You'll be coding in our primary backend technology which is Typescript, Node, and NestJS, so expertise in these areas is essential for contributing to backend development. Possessing a product mindset and being a strategic thinker, ensuring that you consider the business impact in decisions made and demonstrating an ownership mentality. You will be heavily involved in distributed systems and cloud-native environments to enhance scalability and performance. You'll assess complexity in areas where you may have limited knowledge, such as Frontend, so some exposure to React will be beneficial.Bonus points if you have the following:
Infrastructure knowledge: Terraform, Kubernetes, Linux OS. CI/CD knowledge: ArgoCD, GitHub Actions.We value your motivation and potential—your qualifications are important, but we know that perfect candidates don't exist, so even if not all of this applies to you, we'd love to learn more about you.
