Job Title: Research Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Software Engineer to join our team at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing software solutions for model environments, coupling models, and expanding R-based open-source tools to handle dynamic input data sources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement software solutions for model environments and coupling models
  • Expand R-based open-source tools to handle dynamic input data sources
  • Help researchers run models on the HPC (mostly R, Python, Unix)
  • Enhance transparency, reproducibility, and reusability for model workflows
  • Improve accessibility and visibility of our work (e.g., documentation, tutorials, presentations)
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Informatics, Computational Sciences, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Profound experience in programming, preferably in R or Python, GAMS experience an asset
  • Fluency in version control management (e.g., Git and GitHub)
  • Experience with HPC environments an asset
  • Familiarity with scientific modeling and model coupling an asset
