Heavy Equipment Inspector

Purpose: Conducts both scheduled and unscheduled evaluations of maintenance tasks and repairs executed on vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities: To excel in this role, an individual must effectively manage each essential duty.
- Supervises, assists, and/or performs inspections on various types of wheeled vehicles and equipment at the unit maintenance level.
- Conducts initial inspections upon equipment delivery, documenting data for maintenance work orders, troubleshooting identified issues, and performing in-process inspections as necessary during the repair phase. Completes a final inspection post-maintenance to ensure quality standards are achieved.
- Prepares and maintains inspection/test records for the QA/QC Department.
- Confirms that procedures utilized are sufficient for effective quality control, rejects substandard workmanship and materials, and certifies test results on relevant documentation.
- Offers guidance and technical support to maintenance personnel regarding inspection standards, procedures, and expected quality of work.
- Ensures adherence to governmental and corporate regulations, company SOPs, directives, and technical manuals to uphold a quality management program.
- Maintains communication with QA and LAR representatives.
- Collaborates with the Shop Supervisor when technical challenges arise requiring advanced mechanical knowledge.
- Participates in cross-training as needed to enhance flexibility and technical skills in the development and maintenance of quality programs.
- Promotes a safety-first culture within work areas, aiming for low accident rates and minimal lost-time injuries.
- Complies with ISO Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions in support of the Amentum Quality Management System.
- Performs additional duties as assigned, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on various wheeled vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains accurate daily timesheets and manning reports.
Qualifications & Experience: The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this position.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in wheeled vehicle maintenance is required.
- 1 to 2 years of experience as a wheeled vehicle inspector is preferred.
- Full or partial Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification or European equivalent is preferred.
- Military experience equivalent to Army 91B is preferred.
- Work experience may substitute for educational requirements, and vice versa.
- Thorough knowledge of general quality inspection procedures, maintenance forms, records, and reporting systems is essential.
- Understanding of the scopes and limitations of various maintenance categories and their applications is required.
- Ability to read, interpret, and utilize complex blueprints, schematic diagrams, and data tables.
- Capability to perform comprehensive technical inspections of contract units and ensure completed repairs meet applicable standards.
- Ability to instruct and demonstrate proper maintenance techniques and procedures.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
- Must meet and maintain all base access security requirements.
- Must meet and maintain all Logistics Information System (LIS) access requirements.
- Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization; US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization.
- Must have or be able to obtain a US Passport.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Knowledge of diagnostic tools and forms used at the unit level.
- Ability to read vehicle/equipment schematics.
- Capability to analyze and interpret Army Technical Manuals related to vehicle maintenance and repair.
Additional Requirements:
- Licenses and Certifications: A valid driver's license is required.
- Physical Demands: Requires stooping, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds independently, and 51+ pounds with assistance. Must have dexterity in hands and fingers, clear vision, and the ability to drive vehicles.
- Ability to perform job duties efficiently for up to a 48-hour work week, including potential overtime.
- Must be able to endure long hours as required.
Work Environment:
- Regularly required to walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand and lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, and outside weather conditions. Potential exposure to electrical shock, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and radiation. Noise levels are typically loud.
- May be required to deploy on missions on short notice.
