Position Overview

The "Superconducting Magnets & Testing" (SCM) department is seeking a qualified individual to become part of the "Superconducting Magnet Technology" (SCM-SMT) group:

Role: Physicist or Engineer (all genders)

This role involves overseeing the production and testing of superconducting magnets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of the design and production phases of superconducting magnets, including factory acceptance testing.
  • Coordination with experts for design evaluations and production inspections, as well as test programs.
  • Approval of factory acceptance tests.
  • Management of the logistics for transporting magnet components and associated systems.
  • Oversight of the assembly process of the magnets and related systems at the facility.
  • Coordination of site acceptance testing.
  • Management of technical documentation, including test protocols and acceptance records.
  • Facilitation of communication with manufacturers, transport companies, and relevant departments.
  • Handling all administrative matters with GSI's administrative departments.

Candidate Profile:

  • A Master's degree in physics or engineering disciplines (mechanical, cryogenic, electrical, or electronics) or a comparable qualification.
  • Proven experience with superconducting magnets and related technical systems, particularly in operational and measurement techniques, with a focus on mechanics, cryogenics, magnetic field measurements, powering, quench detection and protection, and electrical testing.
  • A structured approach to work, demonstrating a high level of proactivity and responsibility, alongside strong teamwork skills, autonomy, and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Fluency in English; basic knowledge of German is advantageous.
  • Experience in coordinating production and testing activities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools.
