Senior Project Manager for Pre-Construction

Position Summary
As a Senior Pre-Construction Manager, you will be an integral part of the Design and Construction team (D&C) within Amazon Global Engineering Services (GESS). Our mission is to redefine the future of the construction industry.
Within D&C, we challenge conventional limits, creating innovative, standardized, and scalable solutions to deliver high-quality facilities that meet customer demands. Safety, people, and sustainability are at the core of our operations.
Travel Opportunities
This role offers the chance to travel and work across various countries and cultures, with the position based anywhere in Europe and approximately 30% travel required.
- Independently manage complex, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection through design completion, permitting, and contract execution.
- Maintain control over project scope and expedite progress by making timely decisions, identifying and resolving obstacles, and escalating issues as necessary.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive results through effective communication, risk assessment, and decision-making.
- Oversee professional service providers to ensure their qualifications meet project requirements.
- Conduct pricing reviews for scope inclusions/exclusions and negotiate costs with developers, general contractors, and design consultants.
- Estimate costs, manage due diligence, and track schedules, identifying and addressing factors that may hinder successful project handover.
- Implement and manage Amazon's safety programs and standards.
- Insist on high standards from yourself and others, driving accountability for results.
- Negotiate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
In this role, you will represent Amazon and D&C GESS, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution of construction projects while strategically enhancing processes, costs, quality, health and safety, and sustainability performance.
You will lead and mentor large, cross-functional teams, serving as a technical and project management expert to successfully complete construction projects and motivate team members at all levels.
Effective communication across departments, from frontline staff to executive management, will be essential as you address project issues and propose solutions based on your experience.
Daily tasks may include site validation, due diligence, risk analysis, design management, contract negotiations, and stakeholder management. You will also familiarize yourself with zoning, planning, fire codes, and building regulations for jurisdictional coordination.
You will act as the primary escalation point for evaluating the feasibility of potential future projects, ensuring issues are documented and resolved through effective influence.

- A completed Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with substantial experience in relevant roles.
- Demonstrable project management experience from design through implementation, including negotiation of construction and procurement contracts.
- Experience in packaging processing/logistical facilities or similar environments is advantageous.
- Fluency in German and English is required.
- Willingness to travel frequently throughout Europe, up to 30% of the time.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or a related STEM field.
- Experience in multiple disciplines within the construction industry, such as General Contracting, Owner's Representation, or Commercial Development.
- Proven capability in planning, design review, implementation, and project management of new structures and enhancements to existing facilities.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary design projects involving industrial automation or robotics.
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
- Proven success in communicating with diverse audiences, including senior management and vendors.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a plus.
- Experience in a previous new FC Launch at Amazon is desirable.
- Proficiency in additional languages such as French, Polish, or Arabic is considered a plus.
