German-Speaking Senior Manager

About the Role
As a Senior Pre-Construction Manager, you will be integrated into the Design and Construction team (D&C) within Amazon Global Engineering Services (GESS). Our mission is to redefine the future of the construction sector.

Travel Opportunities
This position is based anywhere in Europe, with approximately 30% of your time dedicated to travel, both domestically and across EMEA.
- Independently manage intricate, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection through design completion, permitting, and contract execution, ensuring effective communication with design teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain project scope and expedite progress by making timely decisions, identifying and resolving obstacles, and escalating issues as necessary.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to drive results through effective communication, risk assessment, and decision-making.
- Oversee professional service providers to ensure their competencies align with project requirements.
- Conduct pricing reviews and negotiate costs with developers, general contractors, and design consultants.
- Estimate costs, manage due diligence, track schedules, and forecast potential challenges to ensure successful project handovers.
- Implement and uphold Amazon's safety standards and programs.
- Set high standards for yourself and others, fostering accountability for results.
- Negotiate terms with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Each day, you will represent Amazon and D&C GESS, ensuring projects are executed on time and within budget while strategically enhancing processes, costs, quality, health and safety, and sustainability.
You will lead and mentor large, cross-functional teams, serving as a technical and project management expert to successfully complete construction projects. Your role will involve significant communication across departments, addressing project issues with both frontline and executive management.
Utilizing your expertise, you will identify gaps in project plans and propose effective solutions. You will also negotiate contracts with developers, contractors, and consultants, ensuring Amazon's interests are prioritized.
Daily Tasks May Include:
Site validation, due diligence, risk analysis, design management, contract negotiations, and stakeholder management.
Familiarity with zoning, planning, fire codes, and building regulations will be essential for jurisdictional coordination.
You will act as the primary escalation point for evaluating the feasibility of potential future projects, ensuring that issues are documented and resolved effectively.

- A completed Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with substantial experience in relevant roles.
- Demonstrable project management experience from design through implementation, including contract negotiation.
- Experience in packaging processing/logistical facilities or similar environments is preferred.
- Fluency in German and English is required.
- Willingness to travel frequently across Europe, up to 30% of the time.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or a related STEM field.
- Experience in multiple construction disciplines, including General Contracting, Owner's Representation, and Commercial Development.
- Proven capability in planning, design review, and project management of new structures and facility enhancements.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary designs involving industrial automation or robotics.
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated success in communicating with diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a plus.
- Experience in a previous new FC Launch at Amazon is desirable.
- Fluency in additional languages such as French, Polish, or Arabic is considered a plus.
