About the team
The Global Content Distribution team at Roku is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and finalizing distribution agreements with OTT content providers across all international markets for inclusion on the Roku platform.
About the role
The Contractor for Content Distribution in Germany will play a pivotal role in curating an exciting and appealing array of content services for Roku users in Germany, a dynamic and expanding OTT market. This individual will foster and maintain relationships with local content partners, negotiate agreements in alignment with the framework established by the Roku Global Content Distribution team, and provide strategic recommendations to enhance Roku's content strategy in Germany.
The Contractor will serve as a representative of the Roku brand within the German media sector, promoting and enhancing Roku's presence in the market, ensuring that families in Germany can enjoy the best and most diverse selection of content for their entertainment needs.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and sustain a premier portfolio of content partners on the Roku platform in Germany, focusing on local content providers. Identify opportunities to expand the Roku Platform with local streaming services and engage distribution teams as potential partners. Assess opportunities to enhance existing partnerships and agreements; provide recommendations for key partners as contracts approach expiration. Negotiate (or re-negotiate) commercial terms within a framework established by Roku, in collaboration with Roku's Legal team and the Director of Content Distribution (Europe). Manage daily interactions with major local partners, articulating their priorities and needs while supporting global Roku teams in resource allocation and issue resolution. Monitor streaming consumption on Roku for all significant content partners; identify growth opportunities in consumption and monetization. Support new business development initiatives for the German-speaking region, including enhancements to UI/UX with new features. Provide insights for strategy documents, updates, and reports detailing developments in the German media landscape and their implications for Roku's business. Represent Roku in the local media sector and participate in industry events.Qualifications
Over 5 years of experience in content acquisition or partnerships within a major media company or distribution platform, with a robust network in the local and international media/streaming industry. Proven track record of securing high-profile and high-value commercial agreements. Strong negotiation skills with an understanding of interdependencies among business partners. Familiarity with app distribution agreements and streaming business models (including SVOD, TVOD/EST, and AVOD), along with a solid grasp of the Connected TV OS market. Native (or equivalent) proficiency in German, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of cultivating relationships in both German and English. Demonstrated passion and understanding of the growing OTT business in Germany, along with a good grasp of the technical advantages and challenges faced by content providers in streaming. Experience in negotiating distribution agreements for content services within Germany, including direct collaboration with legal teams. Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with proven experience in market and competitive analysis. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, including technical, finance, legal, and marketing. BA/BS degree required; MBA or higher degree preferred.Benefits
