Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Strategic Planning Director to lead our planning function across a specific area of responsibility. As a key member of our team, you will be accountable for ensuring that projects and tenders within our portfolios are effectively planned, scheduled, and monitored. You will also lead the deployment and implementation of our business' planning and project controls procedures across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities

- Responsible for the planning of larger or more complex projects, minor business units, or parts of larger business units.
- Advocate for and maintain exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability, and project compliance standards.
- Champion a diverse and inclusive working environment and understand the importance of the wellbeing of the people you manage.
- Lead the delivery of key assignments and defined business areas, providing strategic direction and monitoring delivery aligned with overall vision and objectives.
- Responsible for the long-term success of planning performance for specified engines/sectors/hubs and the overall contribution to the broader company goals.
- Ensure projects and tenders are effectively planned, scheduled, and monitored.
- Advises on complex requirements and communicate analysis and corrective measures effectively.
- Manage planning/scheduling delivery of medium/high complexity projects/programmes.
- Oversee planning/scheduling, EVM, project controls methodologies.
- Influence complex requirements and communicate analysis and corrective measures effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with client/s, project team, and stakeholders.
- Create plans and analyses trends using numerical and statistical techniques.
- Support senior management in negotiations, contract development, due diligence, and other business development.
- Lead the planning team and provide leadership and direction through managers/team.
- Inspire and empower individuals within their portfolio to deliver high-quality standards and outputs.
- Undertake tasks required to fulfill the requirements of the project/assignment.
- Provide performance management, technical, and career development and coaching.
- Work collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of schedule management tools and software.
- Mastery in setting up effective planning/schedule management systems and procedures.
- Able to manage activities with significant uncertainty of solution or outcome.
- Multi-industry construction experience.
- Develop and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with client/s and other project stakeholders (internal and external).
- Manage and resolve any actual or potential conflicts with the client or project stakeholders.
- Building and leading a high-performing team/s.

- Degree (or equivalent) with professional work experience in one or more specific disciplines in the construction, programme, project, or commercial management disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent attention to detail and able to validate and check schedule management inputs, recording, and reports produced, providing commentary and analysis.
- Large-scale, high-value projects.
- Develops internal connections.
- Identifying and analyzing business risks.
- Working towards chartered/registered member of a relevant institution accreditation from recognized industry body (e.g., APM, RICS, CIOB, ICE, AACE, IRM, IEMA).
- Relevant CSCS Card.
- Other relevant qualifications specific to local requirements.
- Membership of APM, RICS, CIOB, ICE, AACE, IRM, IEMA, or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
- Deep property or infrastructure project management expertise.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.
- Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
