HVAC Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Infrastructure Program Manager to join our team at Amazon. As a key member of our Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering organization, you will be responsible for leading complex technical programs and projects focused on HVAC Design and Commissioning.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Execute Programs: Develop, execute, and manage programs focused on the implementation of sustainable HVAC and mechanical system solutions across different business units.
- Project Management: Work independently to successfully deliver program goals, seeking guidance as needed and making connections to the right people or technologies as required.
- Capital Project Delivery: Oversee the delivery of capital projects related to the Building Management System (BMS), from scoping and design to construction and commissioning.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including technology providers, customers, partners, and vendors, to deliver complex/cross-functional projects.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership on HVAC and mechanical system design, installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Team Management: Lead cross-functional teams, manage resources, and maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Training and Development: Develop and implement training programs to increase team knowledge and competence.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor, evaluate, and report on the performance and efficiency of HVAC systems.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Stay up to date with the latest sustainable technologies and industry trends and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Root Cause Failure Analysis: Participate in/lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to identify root causes of complex and/or repetitive problems and put in place executable corrective actions.
- Hazard Evaluation and Risk Assessment: Provide support for hazard evaluations and risk assessments to comply with applicable OSHA, EPA, and International Building Code requirements or methodologies.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide leadership to drive continuous improvement with assets and site reliability.
- Data Analysis: Analyze operational data, KPIs, OEE, etc. to identify gaps and areas of potential improvement.
- Asset Improvement Strategies: Actively participate in design and implementation of Asset Improvement Strategies for systems to improve production and uptime.
- Communication and Problem-Solving: Lead discussions to handle concerns and Requests for Information (RFIs). This will require technical knowledge, resourcefulness to navigate through internal and external resources, and a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or relevant technical discipline.
- Experience: Operations and reliability maintenance experience in manufacturing, industrial warehouse or commercial building environment.
- Project Management: Experience in managing multiple programs / projects, using effective time management skills and personal impact to drive complex activities across the organization.
- HVAC Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience in HVAC design, construction, or maintenance.
- Technical Knowledge: Experience in design and operation of mechanical systems, including Roof Top Units, CRAC systems, HVLS and exhaust fans and other air quality and comfort control equipment.
- Understanding of HVAC Principles: Understanding of psychometrics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamic processes and their relation to HVAC related applications.
- Building and Process Load Calculations: Familiarity with building and or process heating/cooling load calculations to derive HVAC equipment specifications.
- Technical Testing and Troubleshooting: Experience testing/troubleshooting using a range of devices, to identify and report out on base building systems.
- Air Balance Reports: Ability to understand technical air balance (TAB) reports and recommend changes to equipment settings.
- Safety Standards and Regulations: Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory requirements including international building code (IBC), National Electric Code (NEC), ASME, NFPA and ASHRAE standards.
- Supervisory or Project Management Experience: Experience preferably in a supervisory or project management role in the installation of utilities and infrastructure in new construction and existing building.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Professional Engineering License: Professional Engineering (PE) License, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or LEED accreditation is highly desirable.
- Project Management Certification: Six Sigma/Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent).
- Electrical Control Wiring and BMS Instrumentation: Proven ability to analyze and troubleshoot electrical control wiring and related BMS instrumentation.
- Adaptability and Communication Skills: High capability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, frequent changes in priorities, and changes in the business environment.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Effective interpersonal and communication skills to successfully integrate and align a multi-discipline team in delivery of projects.
- Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Able to problem solve and troubleshoot as the need arises with a hands-on approach.
- HVAC Monitoring Software: Experience using HVAC monitoring software, such as Niagara BMS for troubleshooting.
