Lead Mechanical Engineer for Satellite Systems

Role Overview:

In the position of Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be pivotal in the design and analysis of mechanical systems and payloads for our cutting-edge satellites. Your work will span various satellite missions, involving critical aspects of vehicle design, test equipment development, satellite assembly, and mechanical environmental assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design spacecraft components and assemblies utilizing SolidWorks.
  • Create comprehensive system documentation.
  • Conduct peer reviews of mechanical schematics.
  • Prototype and evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Validate satellite subsystems and complete satellite systems.
  • Mentor Junior Mechanical Engineers.
  • Collaborate with team members across various disciplines to meet project objectives.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in the Space Industry or a comparable sector.
  • Expertise in designing precision machined components, including material and coating selection.
  • Proficient in mechanical analysis through hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Experience in CAD design and drafting.
  • Familiarity with mechanism design principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with environmental testing (vibration, thermal, thermal-vacuum).
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent FEA software.
  • Understanding of thermal and thermoelastic analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility and EMI shielding.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics theory (communication interfaces, PCB layout principles).
  • Introductory skills in programming (C, Python, scripting).
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex projects.
