About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Spire, a leading space-to-cloud analytics company. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design and development of our next-generation satellites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze mechanical systems and payloads for our satellites
  • Work on a variety of satellite missions, including vehicle design, test equipment design, satellite assembly, and mechanical environmental testing
  • Design satellite structures and mechanisms, and perform thermal and structural analysis
  • Collaborate with electrical and software teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems
  • Lead and manage complex projects, and mentor junior engineers
Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience working in the space industry or similar field
  • Strong design and analysis skills, including CAD design and drafting experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary team
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with mechanism design and precision machined parts design
  • Knowledge of thermal and thermoelastic analysis of mechanical systems
  • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent FEA package
  • Electromagnetic compatibility and EMI shielding knowledge
  • Basic software skills, including C, Python, and scripting
