Role Overview

The Software Architect at NEVIS Security plays a pivotal role in steering technical direction and providing expertise to engineering teams. This position involves collaborating with various departments including engineering, product management, customer success, and site reliability engineering (SRE), as well as engaging with external partners and clients to gather requirements and guide the development process. The ideal candidate will possess both hands-on engineering capabilities and the leadership skills necessary to drive discussions, influence stakeholders, and mentor engineering teams. Staying abreast of industry advancements is crucial to effectively evolve products, practices, and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product management, customer success, and senior leadership to discuss requirements and long-term product strategies.
  • Enhance your understanding of NEVIS Security's value proposition.
  • Partner with Engineering and SRE teams to establish software architecture and technology strategies that align with business needs while considering existing architecture and limitations.
  • Create technology roadmaps, architectural blueprints, and software design concepts. Advocate for the adoption of new technologies and the phasing out of outdated ones.
  • Facilitate technology discussions and present architectural and technical solutions to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist teams in translating architecture into detailed designs and provide support during implementation as necessary.
  • Aid teams in planning and estimations, particularly for high-risk or innovative development tasks.
  • Participate in code and design reviews for complex and innovative features.
  • Engage in the implementation of complex features when required.
  • Offer support in managing escalations when technical challenges arise, including participation in investigations and resolutions.
  • Monitor industry trends in software technology, best practices, and security-specific topics, applying this knowledge to technical decisions.
  • Develop prototypes and proof of concepts for new features and technologies, assess, and present findings.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of methodologies, practices, and tools utilized by engineering teams.
  • Foster the development of technical skills within the engineering community through mentoring, training, and shaping the overall engineering culture.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts and assist in onboarding new team members as needed.
  • Engage in pre-sales activities, leading them from the engineering perspective when necessary.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A BSc or MSc degree in a STEM field, coupled with over 7 years of hands-on software development experience.
  • Proven experience in a technical leadership or architectural role.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong analytical, pragmatic, and results-oriented mindset.
  • Exceptional prioritization and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to drive innovation and act as a change agent.
  • Skills in technical coaching and mentoring, along with the ability to deliver technical training.
  • Familiarity with modern architectural patterns relevant to cloud and hybrid deployment models.
  • Experience with the SaaS delivery model, including operational aspects.
  • Background in enterprise, web, and cloud-based application development, with knowledge of relevant technologies (e.g., Java, Angular, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, RDBMS, OpenTelemetry).
  • Cybersecurity domain knowledge is advantageous (e.g., OpenID, SAML).
  • Understanding of modern development methodologies, tools, and best practices (CI/CD, automated testing, release management, etc.), along with awareness of non-functional characteristics such as scalability, security, and high availability.
  • Proficiency in English.
