The Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) is seeking a highly motivated student of aerospace engineering or chemistry to contribute to a groundbreaking project focused on sustainable aviation fuel. This project aims to develop innovative infrared (IR)-based machine learning models and training databases for estimating the properties of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Key Responsibilities- Conduct a comprehensive literature review of conventional and sustainable aviation fuels, as well as current IR-based models.
- Conceptualize a data set strategy for different use cases, such as property estimation and fuel classification.
- Perform iterative IR measurements to evaluate IR-sensor configurations and ML model estimations.
- Compare results with other datasets and values found in the literature.
- Optional: Develop schemes for the automation of IR measurements.
- Student of aerospace engineering, chemistry, or comparable fields.
- Basic programming experience in Python and ML models (e.g., Scikit-learn, PyTorch).
- Basic theoretical or applied knowledge in organic chemistry and IR spectroscopy.
- Ideal interest in sustainable aviation.
- Ideal interest in laboratory work and working in a motivated team.
