Lead Heavy Equipment Technician

Overview: The Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic will oversee the operations and personnel involved in comprehensive maintenance and repair of heavy wheeled machinery. This role may require travel to various locations for inspections and repairs on equipment being issued or returned from operational units. Availability for overtime may be necessary.
Supervised Positions: Heavy Equipment Mechanics and Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanics
Key Responsibilities: To excel in this position, an individual must competently execute the following essential duties:
- Supervise a team of approximately 12 to 20 mechanics in the TDA, Light, Medium, or Heavy Wheels workshops.
- Disassemble and reassemble machinery using Technical Manuals (TM).
- Conduct annual servicing on the equipment fleet.
- Execute a full spectrum of overhaul, repair, and maintenance for all Heavy Wheeled equipment at both Field and Sustainment levels.
- Assess, repair, and replace components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.
- Identify required parts in repair manuals and submit orders for necessary components.
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on various wheeled equipment, including military and civilian engineering machinery.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned or requested.
- Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical diagrams and schematics.
- Demonstrate experience in hydraulic hose fabrication.
- Mentor and train junior mechanics to enhance their technical skills.
- Maintain accurate daily timesheets and manning reports.
- All mechanics are expected to provide their own basic set of tools.
Qualifications & Experience: The following qualifications are essential for this role:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a heavy equipment mechanic is required.
- 1-3 years of leadership experience is necessary.
- Military experience is preferred.
- ASE certification or other relevant civilian training or certifications is advantageous.
- Must meet and maintain all security requirements for base access.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a US Passport.
Specialized Skills:
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English is mandatory.
- Ability to analyze and interpret Army Technical Manuals related to vehicle maintenance and repair is required.
- Familiarity with GCCS-A, FEDLOG, and office software is a plus.
- Will be required to obtain a military driver's license (OF 346).

2) PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Capable of stooping, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds independently; 51+ pounds with assistance.
- Must possess dexterity in hands and fingers, along with the ability to carry and see clearly at various distances.
- Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively up to a 48-hour work week.
3) WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- While performing job duties, the employee will frequently walk, sit, use hands for handling or feeling, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate verbally. The employee may occasionally need to stand and lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The work environment may expose the employee to moving mechanical parts, high places, and outdoor weather conditions. There may be risks of electrical shock, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and radiation. The noise level is typically loud.
