PhD Student Position in Applied Analysis and Stochastics

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research group in Applied Analysis and Stochastics at the Weierstraß-Institut für Angewandte Analysis und Stochastik. The successful candidate will work on mathematical optimal control problems in connection with powder bed-based processes for metallic 3D printing.
The PhD student will be part of a dynamic and international research team and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of topics in applied mathematics and stochastics. The research group is led by Prof. Dr. D. Hömberg and is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB).
The PhD student will receive a competitive salary and benefits, including a reduced work schedule of 29.25 hours per week. The appointment is limited to three years. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from qualified candidates.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in mathematics or a closely related field
- Strong background in mathematical modelling, nonlinear optimization, and analysis of partial differential equations
- Previous experience in the analytical or numerical treatment of direct or inverse problems in thermomechanics is an advantage
