PhD Student Position in Optimal Transport and Machine Learning

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research group in Optimal Transport and Machine Learning at the Weierstraß-Institut für Angewandte Analysis und Stochastik. The successful candidate will work on developing principled optimal transport theory, optimization, and machine learning methods.
The PhD student will be part of our research group "Data-driven Optimization and Control" and will closely work with Dr. Jia-Jie Zhu. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and aims to develop robust and efficient machine learning methods using optimal transport and gradient flows.
We are looking for candidates with a strong background in computer science, statistics, or applied mathematics, with a special focus on rigorous training in machine learning or optimization. The ideal candidate will have a master's degree and a strong research record, demonstrated by high-quality technical reports or publications in relevant venues.
The PhD student will receive close mentorship and will be part of a dynamic and international research environment. We offer a competitive salary, a reduced work schedule of 29.25 hours per week, and a comprehensive benefits package, including a company pension plan and a subsidy for public transportation.
