Lead Heavy Equipment Technician

Overview: The Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the operations and workforce involved in comprehensive maintenance and repair of heavy wheeled machinery. This role may necessitate travel to various locations for equipment inspections and repairs, particularly for machinery being issued to or returned from operational units. Availability for overtime may be required.
Team Structure: This position supervises a team of Heavy Equipment Mechanics and Senior Mechanics.
Key Responsibilities: To excel in this role, the individual must effectively manage the following duties:
- Supervise a team of 12 to 20 mechanics in TDA, Light, Medium, or Heavy Wheels workshops.
- Disassemble and reassemble machinery in accordance with Technical Manuals (TM).
- Conduct annual servicing of the equipment fleet.
- Perform extensive overhaul, repair, and maintenance on all heavy wheeled equipment at both Field and Sustainment levels.
- Inspect, repair, and replace various components, including engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.
- Identify required parts using repair manuals and submit order requests for necessary components.
- Execute maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a variety of wheeled equipment, including military and civilian engineering machinery.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting hydraulic and electrical diagrams and schematics.
- Exhibit experience in hydraulic hose fabrication.
- Mentor and train junior mechanics to enhance their technical skills.
- Maintain accurate daily timesheets and manning reports.
- All mechanics are expected to provide their own basic toolset.
Qualifications & Experience: The following qualifications are essential for this position:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
- 1-3 years of leadership experience is required.
- Military experience is preferred.
- ASE certification or equivalent civilian training is preferred.
- Must meet and maintain all security requirements for base access.
- Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a US Passport.
Specialized Skills:
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Ability to analyze and interpret Army Technical Manuals related to vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Familiarity with GCCS-A, FEDLOG, and office software is advantageous.
- Required to obtain a military driver's license (OF 346).

2) Physical Demands:
- Ability to stoop, sit, kneel, stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds independently, and more with assistance.
- Capability to perform job duties efficiently for up to a 48-hour work week.
3) Work Environment:
- The role involves frequent walking, sitting, handling, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and talking or hearing. Occasional standing and lifting/moving of up to 50 pounds is required.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Potential exposure to electrical hazards, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and radiation risks.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
