Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to enhance and optimize our digital advertising SaaS application suite. Utilizing technologies such as NodeJS with TypeScript, federated GraphQL, Docker, AWS, and Apache Kafka, you will be responsible for designing microservices and back-end components, as well as integrating data storage, monitoring, and protection solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Your primary focus will be on developing server-side logic, defining and maintaining central databases and message buses, and ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness to front-end requests. You will also conduct regular code reviews, mentor team members, and contribute to workload estimations, project planning, and architectural discussions. You will collaborate within a cross-functional team led by a Product Owner to contribute to our multi-tenant SaaS product and ad-serving network.

Qualifications
To excel as a Senior Backend Engineer at Factor Eleven, you should have extensive knowledge of NodeJS-based services, a solid understanding of AWS and/or Kafka, and strong expertise in GraphQL/REST APIs. An ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to ensure the stable, fast, and secure exchange of data between servers and end-users while effectively sharing that expertise with the broader team.

Essential Duties

  • Develop and maintain microservices and back-end components.
  • Ensure optimal database performance and responsiveness to front-end requests.
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, and stakeholders on the design and integration of system elements.
  • Create high-performance applications by writing testable, reusable, and efficient code.
  • Implement effective security protocols, data protection measures, and storage solutions.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, repair defects, and provide technical support.
  • Document server-side processes, including database schemas, message events, and sagas, while preparing reports.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to processes and technologies.
  • Stay informed of advancements in the fields of AWS and related development.
  • Participate in code and technical design reviews.
  • Estimate workloads and write tasks for yourself and others.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in NodeJS with TypeScript, web stacks, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Experience with user authentication and authorization across multiple systems, servers, and environments.
  • High familiarity with fundamental design principles behind scalable applications.
  • Ability to create database schemas that represent and support business processes.
  • Good knowledge of event-driven architecture, message buses, and/or pub/sub systems.
  • Proven expertise in implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with git, npm, Docker, and Jira.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Good project management capabilities.
  • Extensive experience mentoring teammates in a respectful and educational manner.
