Position Overview
The Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP is at the forefront of applied research, focusing on innovative solutions for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of immune-related diseases. Our Immunology, Infection, and Pandemic Research (IIP) site in Penzberg, Munich, is dedicated to developing cutting-edge diagnostic tools and therapeutics targeting infectious diseases caused by emerging pathogens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a multidisciplinary team engaged in the development of diagnostic and therapeutic products, as well as scientific publications.
  • Oversee the production and characterization of recombinant proteins under BSL-2 laboratory conditions.
  • Manage the complete workflow from construct design, molecular cloning, and production in various host organisms to purification and biophysical characterization.
Qualifications
  • PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of protein chemistry, including experience with computational structure prediction and engineering tools.
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in recombinant protein production utilizing advanced cloning and purification techniques; familiarity with viral proteins or antibodies is a plus.
  • Proficiency in biophysical methods such as DLS, SEC-MALS, or MST.
  • A strong drive for innovation, creativity, and a keen interest in implementing new methodologies, including AI-based protein design.
  • Ability to work independently with a structured approach and a commitment to professional development.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in both English and German.
