At Mercedes-Benz, we are at the forefront of innovation in the automotive industry, focusing on the next generation of vehicles. Our work today is pivotal in maintaining Daimler's technological edge in the future, particularly in the realm of autonomous driving.
A key component of automated driving is a comprehensive understanding of the vehicle's surroundings. While sensors such as lidar, cameras, and radar play crucial roles, a digital road map is equally essential. This map provides vital contextual information that enhances the capabilities of our sensors, enabling a more complete perception of the environment.
To ensure safe and efficient automated driving, our road maps must surpass traditional navigation systems in accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. We utilize sensor data from our fleet to continuously update and refine these high-definition maps through a closed-loop process. Within the Map Learning team, we are dedicated to developing this innovative process for generating precise maps.
Your ResponsibilitiesYour role will involve:
- Gaining familiarity with existing software frameworks and leading algorithms.
- Extending and developing concepts, implementing learning-based approaches to generate rich representations, particularly in deep learning, graph deep learning, geometric deep learning, and foundational models.
- Creating and executing strategies to estimate the necessary scope and ensure the diversity of training data.
- Formulating evaluation criteria to assess results against established ground truth maps and alternative methodologies.
The specific focus of your thesis will be determined collaboratively with your university and our team.
Qualifications- Master's degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics, or a related field.
- Proficient in both written and spoken German and English.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
- High initiative and ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
