Emergency Logistics Consultant

Remote Work

This role is available for immediate filling, with an initial contract duration of one year and promising prospects for extension. The position will be home-based, requiring frequent travel to project locations.

As an Emergency Logistics Consultant, you will enhance Welthungerhilfe's reputation as a key player in international humanitarian efforts by actively engaging in global logistics networks. Additionally, you will bolster our capacity to respond effectively to significant disasters in the logistics domain.

Your efforts will elevate the profile of logistics within Welthungerhilfe's Country Offices, ensuring adherence to established standards, facilitating smooth workflows, and implementing clear and efficient processes. You will also be expected to foster collaboration on logistical matters across various sectors within the country, as well as with other nations and our headquarters.

Through your contributions, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission by further developing Welthungerhilfe's global standards, guidelines, and methodologies, ensuring alignment of program countries and projects with our global frameworks, and establishing the organization as a recognized authority in development and humanitarian assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead logistics operations in the country of assignment, focusing on emergency situations.
  • Manage logistics tasks during major disasters.
  • Analyze and adapt existing logistics and procurement processes, particularly in relation to emergency interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with Welthungerhilfe's standard logistics processes and internal policies.
  • Collaborate actively to develop solutions that enhance logistics processes, including the selection and implementation of software solutions.
  • Oversee and coordinate logistics and procurement activities at Country Offices, supporting project needs, including warehousing and fleet management.
  • Empower staff to execute logistics tasks as per their roles.
  • Ensure effective use of existing software and digital solutions for logistics operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to countries on logistics matters in both program and non-program areas.
  • Design and deliver training programs for staff and partner organizations on logistics and emergency management.
  • Create and update logistics best practices, guidelines, and templates for operations in various contexts.
  • Participate in the Emergency Crisis Group for major disaster response.
  • Represent the organization at events, committees, and networks, contributing to discussions in cross-organizational forums.

Candidate Profile

  • A university degree or relevant training in a field related to this position.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in logistics.
  • Experience with international donors, particularly German entities such as BMZ, GIZ, or KfW, is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a multicultural environment.
  • A keen interest in working with new software and digital solutions.
  • Willingness to receive necessary vaccinations for work in program countries.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English, with very good French language skills.
