Financial Reporting Specialist

As a Financial Reporting Specialist at Goldman Sachs, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting for our legal entities. This is a challenging and dynamic position that requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate the preparation of annual financial statements and statutory audit, working closely with our auditors to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Lead on technical accounting areas, particularly German GAAP, and provide guidance to colleagues on complex accounting issues.
- Facilitate communication with regulators on accounting topics and ensure that our financial reporting is in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Review and analyze monthly and quarterly management accounts under US GAAP, IFRS, and German GAAP, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
- Collaborate with our Financial Reporting team in New York to ensure the quarterly consolidated reporting of the Goldman Sachs Group is accurate and complete.
- Review and analyze reporting to the Federal Reserve Board and ensure that our financial reporting is in compliance with relevant regulations.
- Coordinate with our tax teams in the US, UK, and EU on local and foreign tax issues, VAT returns, and annual tax returns.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our business and stay up-to-date with business developments, communicating this effectively to team members.
- Identify opportunities to improve manual processes and management reporting information, leading to higher value-added work.
- Participate in department-wide projects and initiatives, as well as cross-departmental initiatives, to drive business growth and improvement.
- Qualified accountant (German Chartered Auditor or National equivalent).
- Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in an accounting environment, preferably in the financial services industry in Germany.
- Academic degree in finance or business administration preferred.
- Business fluency in German (native) and English.
- Detailed knowledge of accounting rules (German GAAP / IFRS / USGAAP).
- Attention to detail and time management are essential skills for this role.
- Strong computing skills – comfortable with large data sets.
- Strong communication – ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a broad range of people across the firm at various levels of seniority.
- Self-motivated and proactive – Ability to run with issues, get involved, and be hands-on, and provide constant high-quality feedback.
