Research Associate Development 5G/6G Mobile Communication Systems

Fraunhofer-Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen IIS is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team in the development of 5G/6G mobile communication systems. As a Research Associate, you will be responsible for system design and analysis, waveform design and algorithm development, and simulation verification in the 5G/6G environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Concentrate on system design and analysis, waveform design and algorithm development, as well as simulation verification in the 5G/6G environment.
- Implement and test signal processing on the open source platform »OpenAirInterface 5G«, primarily on the physical and medium access control (MAC) layers.
- Analyze the latest 5G/6G technologies released by 3GPP by utilizing the developed real-time capable prototypes as well as powerful lab equipment (e.g., channel emulators, over-the-air technology, or live satellites).
- A scientific university degree in communications engineering or a comparable degree program.
- Good knowledge of 4G and 5G mobile radio systems, preferably also in 3GPP 5G NR or LTE.
- Expertise in communication systems (physical layer or MAC layer), C programming (preferably also C++), Linux, embedded software development, version control systems (Git, Apache Subversion), and laboratory/field tests.
- Ideally, a basic understanding of the OpenAirInterface, software architecture, and MATLAB for communication systems, as well as experience using scripting languages (Perl, TCL, bash/csh).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (German and English).

The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim for subsequent extension. The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis, but preferably as close to a full-time position as possible.
