Campus Security Officer

The Campus Police Officer operates under the direct supervision of a Campus Police Sergeant. This role involves patrolling educational facilities and grounds while upholding laws, regulations, and institutional policies. The officer is responsible for providing escort services, substituting for Campus Police Dispatchers, and managing access to buildings by locking and unlocking doors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts regular patrols of campus facilities and grounds to enforce applicable laws and regulations.
- Offers escort services for individuals on campus.
- Acts as a substitute for Campus Police Dispatchers when necessary.
- Manages access to buildings by locking and unlocking doors as required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Performs security and safety functions at off-campus locations associated with the institution.
- Delivers messages and assists in locating students during emergencies.
- Establishes positive public relations and provides general information to the campus community.
- Assists with traffic management, including directing traffic, responding to accidents, and addressing parking concerns.
- Documents incidents and prepares comprehensive reports on investigations, complaints, and security matters.
- Identifies and reports safety hazards observed on campus.
- Collects and preserves evidence, and may be required to testify in legal proceedings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one year of experience in law enforcement. Compliance with Chapter 943 of the Florida Statutes is mandatory. Alternatively, two years of active military service or relevant public contact experience may be considered in lieu of the required experience. Relevant college coursework or vocational training may also substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates holding Florida Law Enforcement certification and possessing one year of law enforcement experience.

- Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures.
- Understanding of relevant Florida Statutes and local ordinances.
- Familiarity with evidence handling and processing.
- Comprehension of laws related to arrest, search, and seizure.
- Awareness of security protocols and building access systems.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships and communicate clearly.
- Capacity to manage stressful situations and demonstrate critical thinking.
- Proficiency in report writing with clarity and grammatical accuracy.
- Certification in first aid and CPR.
- Physical fitness to perform duties in various weather conditions and for extended periods.
