Campus Safety Officer

The Campus Police Officer is accountable to the Campus Police Sergeant and plays a vital role in maintaining safety across campus facilities. This position involves regular patrols of campus premises, ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and institutional policies. The officer also provides escort services, assists in dispatch operations, and manages access control by locking and unlocking doors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Conducts routine patrols of campus buildings and grounds, enforcing applicable laws and regulations.
- Offers escort services to individuals on campus and provides relief for Campus Police Dispatchers.
- Locks and unlocks doors as necessary to maintain security.
- Performs security and safety functions at off-campus locations affiliated with the College.
- Delivers messages and locates students during emergency situations.
- Establishes positive public relations and provides general information to the campus community.
- Assists with traffic management, including directing traffic, responding to accidents, and addressing parking concerns.
- Prepares detailed reports on investigations, complaints, and security incidents, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Identifies and reports safety hazards observed during patrols.
- Collects, documents, and prepares evidence for potential court testimony.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one year of experience in law enforcement. Compliance with Chapter 943 of the Florida Statutes is required. Two years of military service or relevant public contact experience may be considered as a substitute for the required experience. Additionally, relevant college coursework or vocational training may replace the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPreference will be given to candidates with Florida Law Enforcement certification and a minimum of one year of law enforcement experience.
SKILLS AND ABILITIESSuccessful candidates will demonstrate:
- Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures.
- Understanding of state statutes and local ordinances.
- Familiarity with evidence processing and laws regarding arrest and search.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships and communicate clearly.
- Capability to handle stressful situations and make sound judgments.
- Physical fitness to perform duties, including standing for extended periods and responding to emergencies.
- Proficiency in using dispatch systems and computer applications.
All candidates must be prepared to perform first aid and CPR, possess excellent problem-solving skills, and demonstrate the ability to work independently while following directives.
