Research Associate for the Project W4 Gravity Wave Parameterization for the Ocean

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at the University of Hamburg. The successful candidate will be part of the theoretical oceanography group and work under the supervision of Dr. Friederike Pollmann and Prof. Dr. Carsten Eden.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a computationally cheap simplified IDEMIX model to increase its usability
- Evaluate the different IDEMIX versions with respect to the characteristics of the modelled wave field, the associated computational costs, and the agreement with global scale observations
- Collaborate with the experimental oceanographers at University of Bremen and the climate modelers at University of Bremen, Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine Research (Bremerhaven), and Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology (Hamburg)
Requirements
- University degree in a relevant field
- Genuine interest in independent research in the fields of oceanography and numerical modeling, in data analysis, and in the presentation and publication of scientific results
- Excellent English skills and ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team
