The Liver Development and Regeneration team, led by Professor Elke Ober at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, is seeking a dedicated PhD candidate to join our innovative research project focused on liver development and regeneration.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will engage in a research project that employs molecular biology techniques, zebrafish genetics, and advanced imaging methodologies to explore the intricate molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern morphogenetic interactions and cellular communication during liver development.
Candidate ProfileEssential Qualifications:
- Master's degree in life sciences (e.g., Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry) or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within a diverse, international team.
- Self-driven and capable of thriving in a collaborative research environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in cell and/or developmental biology.
- Familiarity with microscopy and image analysis techniques.
- Good command of English for scientific discourse.
- Background in zebrafish research.
- Authorization to conduct research involving animal subjects.
This PhD project aims to elucidate the roles of endothelial cells in establishing a functional liver architecture during development, with a particular emphasis on the polarization of hepatocytes and their connection to the biliary ductal network. The project will leverage zebrafish genetics and cutting-edge molecular biology techniques.
Training and DevelopmentThe selected candidate will receive comprehensive training in molecular biology, zebrafish husbandry, genetics, fluorescence microscopy, and computational image analysis, ensuring a robust educational experience.
Work EnvironmentThe Ober group is a vibrant and collaborative team within the Division of Developmental Biology at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. The university and its affiliated institutes offer an exceptional research environment, equipped with all necessary facilities to support this ambitious research initiative.
CompensationSalary will be in accordance with TV-L E13, at a part-time capacity of 50-65%, commensurate with experience, for a duration of three years.
