Our mission involves facilitating BASF's access to renewable energy through strategic participation in the generation of renewable electricity, establishing long-term supply agreements, and integrating renewable energy into our production facilities.


As a pivotal member of our team, you will oversee risk management for our energy trading operations, collaborating closely with our trading desks.

  • Your role will involve implementing risk-mitigating modifications to existing operational methods to reduce potential future risks.
  • You will conduct comprehensive risk assessments, measurement, and ensure compliance with our risk management framework, which includes Value at Risk (VaR), stress testing, and validation of the parameters utilized in our valuation and risk measurement models.
  • Moreover, you will liaise with financial planning, energy accounting, regulatory compliance, financial reporting, contract management, and gas & power supply operations to stay informed about current developments and regulatory issues affecting power resources.
  • Your analytical expertise will support the company's strategic initiatives and portfolio hedging strategies, while keeping abreast of trends in the Energy and Commodity markets, providing regular updates to the team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lastly, you will lead training sessions to enhance awareness of risk management practices, educating both business and operational teams.
  • A degree in economics, business administration, mathematics, business mathematics, business information systems, or equivalent experience in the energy, finance, or insurance sectors is required. Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certification is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the energy sector is essential, with a focus on power being a plus.
  • Familiarity with trading systems, particularly ETRM systems (e.g., Allegro, FIS, Contigo), along with experience in operational finance and risk roles, ideally related to power or commodities.
  • A solid understanding of risk management principles and prior experience in risk-related roles (e.g., risk assistant or risk analyst) is necessary.
  • Knowledge of economic optimization, risk analytics, and market analysis is expected.
  • Strong research capabilities, utilizing both online resources and direct interviews.
  • Proficient computer skills, data entry, and MS Office proficiency, coupled with excellent communication skills in English, with German being a plus.
