focused on molecular neuroscience and membrane biophysics. This role is initially supported by the NeuroCure Research Fellowship and aims to elucidate the mechanisms governing neuronal membrane shaping. Neurons experience significant membrane remodeling throughout their lifecycle, from neurodevelopment to synapse formation and during learning and memory processes. These intricate events are regulated by complex signaling pathways and specialized membrane remodeling systems that interact with local intracellular scaffolds. Numerous neurological disorders, including intellectual disabilities and schizophrenia, are linked to impaired membrane remodeling. This project will investigate the molecular functions and interactions at neuronal synapses of specific proteins associated with human diseases and involved in membrane remodeling. The research will encompass functional studies in genome-engineered human stem cell-derived neurons, interactomics, and bottom-up methodologies utilizing purified proteins and model membrane systems.
Your Profile:
We are looking for highly motivated, ambitious, and skilled young scientists to join an enthusiastic and collaborative team in an exceptional scientific environment. Ideal PhD candidates will possess a MSc degree in a relevant field (e.g., neuroscience, cell biology, biophysics) and demonstrate a strong record of achievements. Candidates with experience in neuron culture, proximity proteomics, microscopy imaging techniques (e.g., confocal light microscopy, STED, STORM, CLEM), or protein purification related to membrane biophysics are particularly encouraged to apply. All applicants should exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong personal drive to excel in scientific research. The working language is English.
