Job Overview
The Sales Associate plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional service within the garden center. This position involves engaging with customers, assisting them in selecting the right products, and providing detailed information about the features and advantages of various items. The associate will also help maintain the store's appearance and may operate cash registers as needed.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
Approach customers throughout the store to offer assistance and guide them to product locations
Articulate the benefits and features of products to customers and recommend complementary items
Maintain a broad understanding of all merchandise, with potential specialization in certain areas
Provide pricing information, place orders from catalogs, and follow up on special requests
Respond to customer inquiries via phone and in-person within established guidelines
Uphold security protocols
Communicate stock shortages and new item requests
Utilize communication devices to request additional support
Assist customers during checkout and with carryout services
Ensure accurate shelf labeling, organize merchandise according to labels, and create appealing displays
Receive and verify incoming merchandise shipments
Unpack and tag merchandise, ensuring correct pricing
Restock shelves and displays as necessary
Handle interstore transfers
Perform cleaning tasks including merchandise facing, dusting, sweeping, and trash disposal
Maintain cleanliness and merchandising standards that align with Theisen's Brand expectations
Undertake additional tasks as assigned by management, which may include inventory preparation, unloading deliveries, and operating cash registers
Required Skills and Abilities
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following skills and abilities are essential:
Strong customer service orientation Basic mathematical skills High integrity and ethical standards Proficiency in answering phones and learning cash register operations Familiarity with forklift and pallet jack operations is a plus but not mandatory Excellent verbal communication skills Positive demeanor, strong listening skills, and an engaging personalityPhysical Requirements
Frequent physical activities include lifting up to 25 lbs., walking, standing, bending, reaching, and light grasping. Occasional activities may involve lifting over 50 lbs., climbing, squatting, and firm grasping. The associate must be able to communicate effectively and maintain required attendance. Vision capabilities must be sufficient to perform job responsibilities efficiently. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating a computer or cash register.
Work Environment
Work is primarily conducted indoors within the store, although some tasks may occur outdoors in varying temperatures. The environment is typically fast-paced with regular deadlines and sales targets. Associates may encounter noise and vibrations and must be aware of potential hazards. Protective equipment may be required depending on specific tasks.
