Role Overview
The Sales Associate plays a vital role in delivering exceptional service within the Garden Center. This position involves engaging with customers, assisting them in finding the right products, and providing detailed information about the features and advantages of various items. The associate is expected to maintain a welcoming atmosphere and ensure the store is well-organized and appealing.
Key Responsibilities
Approach customers throughout the store to offer assistance and guide them to product locations
Articulate the benefits and features of products, while suggesting complementary items
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all merchandise, with potential specialization in specific areas
Process price quotes, manage orders from catalogs, and follow up on special requests
Respond to customer inquiries via phone and in-store, adhering to established protocols
Uphold security practices within the store
Communicate inventory shortages and request new items as necessary
Utilize communication devices to seek additional support when needed
Assist customers during checkout and with carryout services
Ensure accurate shelf labeling, organize merchandise according to labels, and create attractive displays
Receive and verify incoming merchandise shipments
Unpack and price merchandise, ensuring items are tagged correctly
Restock shelves and displays, and assemble products as required
Manage interstore transfers as needed
Perform cleaning tasks including facing merchandise, dusting, sweeping, and maintaining overall cleanliness
Ensure the store meets Theisen's Brand standards for cleanliness and merchandising
Undertake additional tasks as directed by management, which may include inventory preparation and assisting with deliveries
Required Skills and Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following:
Strong customer service abilities Basic arithmetic skills High integrity and ethical standards Ability to learn cash register operations and answer phone inquiries Familiarity with forklift and pallet jack operations is a plus Excellent verbal communication skills Positive demeanor, attentive listening skills, and an engaging personalityPhysical Requirements
The role involves frequent physical activity, including lifting up to 25 lbs., walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Occasionally, associates may need to lift heavier items, climb stairs, or perform squatting movements. Effective communication is essential, and associates must be able to work scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends. Visual acuity is necessary for performing job functions efficiently, and manual dexterity is required for operating a computer or cash register.
Work Environment
The majority of work will take place within the store, though some tasks may occur outdoors in varying weather conditions. The environment is typically fast-paced, with regular sales targets and deadlines. Associates may encounter noise and vibrations, as well as potential hazards such as cuts or burns. Protective equipment may be required depending on specific tasks.
