Tallahassee Community College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Counselor to join our team. As a School Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing a comprehensive school counseling program that assists all students in acquiring the skills and knowledge to maximize their highest student achievement in a safe learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Implement the Comprehensive School Counseling Program: Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program that aligns with the College's mission and goals.
- Advocate for Students: Act as an advocate for all students, ensuring that their academic, career, and personal/social needs are met.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work in collaboration with other stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, and community agencies, to narrow the achievement gap and promote student success.
- Provide Professional Leadership: Provide professional leadership to establish a culture conducive to learning, and to promote a positive and supportive school climate.
- Counsel Students: Counsel individual and/or small groups of students with academic, career, and personal/social concerns, and assist them in developing a plan for achieving their educational, career, and personal/social goals.
- Assist with Student Scheduling: Work with the Assistant Principal to ensure that students are properly scheduled for classes.
- Lead the 504 Program: Serve as the lead for the school's 504 program, ensuring that students with disabilities receive the support and accommodations they need to succeed.
- Coordinate Student Intervention Meetings: Coordinate the school's weekly student intervention meetings, ensuring that students who are struggling receive the support they need to get back on track.
- Serve as Graduation Coach: Serve as the graduation coach for the school, ensuring that students are on track to graduate and are prepared for post-secondary education or the workforce.
- Communicate with Community Agencies: Communicate with community agencies on behalf of students, ensuring that they receive the support and resources they need to succeed.
- Seek Resources: Seek out resources and partnerships that will benefit students and the school community.
- Use Data to Inform Practice: Use data to inform practice, identifying areas of strength and weakness and developing strategies to improve student outcomes.
- Follow Professional Standards: Follow the guidelines of the national, state, and district standards for professional school counselors, and adhere to ethical and legal professional standards.
- Use Technology: Use technology to provide counseling services and to communicate with students, parents, and staff.
- Master's Degree: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling or a related field is required.
- State Certification: State certification in School Counseling is required.
- Experience: Preference will be given to candidates who have served as a school counselor at the high school level, with comprehensive knowledge and experience of the Florida High School Graduation requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have served as the dual-enrollment coordinator at the high school level and have experience with dual enrollment course planning and communication with post-secondary institutions, deadlines, and processes.
