School Counselor

The Guidance Counselor will provide a comprehensive school counseling program that assists all students in acquiring the skills and knowledge to maximize their highest potential in a safe learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Implement the comprehensive school counseling program as outlined in the School Professional Counselor plan.
- Act as an advocate for all students and work in collaboration with other stakeholders to narrow the achievement gap.
- Provide professional leadership to establish a culture conducive to learning and provide counseling services to individual and/or small groups of students with academic, career, and personal/social concerns.
- Assist students in developing a plan for achieving educational, career, and personal/social goals and work with the Assistant Principal on student scheduling needs.
- Serve as the dual-enrollment liaison between the high school and the college and implement dual-enrollment degree pathway plans for individual students.
- Consult with school-based teams to facilitate appropriate placement decisions to enhance student achievement, including exceptional student education staffing, 504 determination meetings, and MTSS/Problem-Solving Team.
- Lead the school's weekly student intervention meetings and serve as the graduation coach for the school.
- Communicate with community agencies on behalf of students and coordinate with school and community agencies to broaden students' resources.
- Seek resources necessary to achieve school goals and guide individuals/groups of students through the development of educational plans, career awareness, and personal/social growth issues.
- Identify and disaggregate critical data, such as grades, test scores, attendance, promotion rates, graduation, and postsecondary enrollment rate, and use data to develop strategies to positively impact students.
- Follow guidelines of national, state, and district standards for professional school counselors and adhere to ethical and legal professional standards.
- Use appropriate technology for counseling services.
A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling and State of Florida School Certification is required. Preference is given to candidates who have served as a school counselor at the high school level, with comprehensive knowledge and experience of the Florida High School Graduation requirements.
Preference is also given to candidates who have served as the dual-enrollment coordinator at the high school level and have experience with dual-enrollment course planning and communication with post-secondary institutions, deadlines, and processes. Preference is given to candidates who have previously served as a 504-coordinator.
This is a 10-month position reporting to the principal.
