Manager of Energy Initiatives, Infrastructure Energy Division

vor 4 Wochen

Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Deutschland Amazon Vollzeit

Location:
This position is available in multiple cities across Europe.

As a key member of the AWS EMEA Energy & Water team, the Infrastructure Energy Division is seeking a proactive individual to take on the role of Manager of Energy Initiatives.

This position is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive power scaling strategy across several countries within the EMEA region.

The role involves assessing, formulating, and executing strategies related to the interconnection of our data centers and the expansion of our operations across the power grids that support our business.

The primary objective of this role is to guarantee the availability of secure, resilient, and scalable energy across the 2-3 countries under your management, ensuring that AWS's growth is not hindered.

With a solid background in the energy sector, combined with strong project management capabilities, you will lead the sourcing and contracting of power capacity in collaboration with regional specialists.

This will require you to anticipate potential risks and obstacles to growth, thoroughly evaluate the power system's quality and the underlying generation, and develop both tactical solutions and strategic proposals to address challenges related to power access.

By implementing the strategies you devise, you will facilitate scalable future growth to support the expansion of AWS Cloud, allowing our clients to innovate more rapidly.

In partnership with other teams, the successful candidate will foster business and technical relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including grid operators, electricity providers, regulators, and policymakers, to ensure timely and cost-effective power procurement to support AWS's infrastructure growth in EMEA.

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS)

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In essence, we are the team that ensures the cloud remains operational.

We support all AWS data centers along with the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems that guarantee our customers continuous access to the innovations they depend on.

We tackle the most complex challenges, navigating numerous variables that impact the supply chain - and we are looking for skilled individuals who are eager to contribute.

You will join a diverse group of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain experts, security professionals, operations managers, and other essential roles.

Collaboration across AWS is key to delivering the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly limitless capacity at the most competitive costs for our customers.

You will also experience an inclusive culture that encourages innovative ideas and empowers you to see them through to fruition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the formulation and implementation of a detailed power growth strategy for AWS's EMEA data centers in both new and existing regions, collaborating with real estate and planning teams.
  • Identify, source, and secure the necessary power capacity to facilitate the establishment of data centers.
  • Recognize risks associated with the delivery and operation of power grids and develop suitable mitigation strategies in conjunction with partner teams.
  • Identify and create cost-saving initiatives related to grid and network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with electricity providers and other external stakeholders to formulate strategies that support AWS's expansion in EMEA.
  • Work alongside AWS's Public Policy team to establish policies and guidelines that align with broader AWS strategies and objectives.
A Day in the Life:

  • Utilize project management expertise to coordinate with both internal business partners and energy stakeholders.
  • Drive the tactical execution of power contracts and initiatives.
  • Establish and nurture business and technical relationships, managing daily interactions with these partners.
  • Achieve the energy team objectives to facilitate AWS's infrastructure growth in EMEA.
About the Team:

The Infrastructure Energy team consists of a diverse group of professionals, with members located in various cities across Europe.

The team is tasked with sourcing, contracting, and delivering reliable power connections to our data centers throughout EMEA.

The team's responsibilities are divided among Energy Project Managers (EPMs) and Grid Delivery Managers (GDMs), supported by business analysts.

EPMs focus on sourcing and securing the power required for AWS's data center fleet, while GDMs oversee the delivery of large-scale high-voltage and medium-voltage infrastructure connections to our facilities.

Addressing the challenge of finding reliable, scalable, and sustainable power is crucial for AWS's future.

The Infrastructure Energy team plays a vital role in overcoming this challenge and enabling scalable growth to support AWS Cloud expansion and customer innovation.
