Senior Counsel for Energy Regulation

Position Overview: Our International Law & Global Trading team, part of the Legal & Compliance division, is seeking a qualified individual to provide expert legal counsel on energy market regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal guidance on national and European regulatory matters affecting Uniper's global energy operations.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of physical and financial transactions in commodities such as power, natural gas, hydrogen, coal, oil, emissions, and green certificates to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Lead or support internal investigations and respond to inquiries related to trading compliance, including regulations like REMIT II and MAR.
  • Contribute significantly to the ongoing implementation of energy market and financial regulatory requirements.
  • Design and deliver training sessions, both in-person and online, for front office and support staff.
  • Collaborate with the Legal & Compliance team and relevant stakeholders to address daily trading compliance challenges.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Strong academic credentials in law or economics.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in advising on national and European regulations within the industry or banking sector, particularly in commodities or financial trading.
  • In-depth knowledge of MiFID II, EMIR, and MAR is essential.
  • Experience with REMIT II and/or SFTR is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical abilities, sound judgment, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Capability to take initiative and work independently on assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to engage with all levels of management.
  • Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in German is advantageous.
