Research Assistant

The Universität Kassel is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join its Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Institute of Structural Engineering - Geotechnical Engineering. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team working on a DFG project focused on piled rafts under cyclic horizontal loading.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct small-scale model tests and soil mechanical laboratory tests, including cyclic triaxial tests.
- Perform numerical simulations using the finite element method (FEM).
Requirements:
- Master's or Diploma degree in civil engineering.
- Excellent knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
- Good to very good knowledge of numerical methods in geotechnical engineering, especially FEM.
- Experience in conducting and evaluating soil mechanical laboratory tests.
- Very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
Advantageous Qualifications:
- Good knowledge of German, both written and spoken.
- High motivation, independent working style, and sense of responsibility.
- Good knowledge of FEM software ABAQUS, NUMGEO, or Tochnog Professional, including UMATs.
- Knowledge of material behavior of soils under cyclic loading.
- Knowledge of bearing behavior of foundations under cyclic loading.
- Experience in conducting and evaluating model tests.
