You have completed university degree program (master's or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and automation engineering or computer science with a focus on control engineering at an engineering university and achieved very good results. You have a strong foundation in the field of control and automation engineering and are eager to further develop your knowledge in this area. Being involved in projects and teaching activities is an attractive challenge for you.

Ideally, you have already gained programming experience in Matlab/Simulink, Python, C++ or similar in a control engineering context. Technical experience with GNSS-based localization is desirable but not mandatory. You are able to develop novel solutions for challenging technical problems in a team and you speak fluent German or English.

**Ihre Aufgaben**:
Within the scope of a unique project, the autonomous operation of a Baltic Sea car ferry is being experimentally realized in cooperation with joint partners. The highly dynamic environment (wind, waves, ships, swimmer, and sailors) requires a high maturity of all developed algorithms. The aim of your work is the development of navigation algorithms for robust state estimation of the ferry. To achieve centimeter-accurate localization, a wide variety of modern sensors has to be integrated into a suitable algorithm. In addition to the development, you will support the modification of the ferry and test and validate your approaches. Experimental testing will take place at regular intervals on the Baltic Sea. With your work, you make a methodical and practical contribution to the development of new and sustainable mobility concepts. The methods of trajectory planning and control are also developed at the IRT, which enables close cooperation within the scientific team. With regard to the methodology, you will be able to set your own personal priorities based on existing approaches. In doing so, you will be supported at IRT by scientists with many years of experience in navigation projects and with diverse methodological expertise. You will share your scientific results with the community at international conferences and in scientific journals. For these work topics, we are looking for a dedicated employee as soon as possible.
