You have completed a scientific university degree (TH, TU, U, Master or comparable) in the field of physics and want to do a PhD. You are willing to carry out fundamental research projects in close coordination with our research partners in a committed and independent manner. You like to take the initiative and are able to familiarize yourself with new topics. The ability to communicate in a team is a prerequisite, as is the desire to publish your research results at renowned conferences and in journals.

Basic knowledge of programming and data analysis (e.g. Python) is required.

Experience in beam source development is advantageous, but not mandatory.

**Your Duties and Responsibilities**:
Focus of the advertised position is the fundamental investigation of a highly stable fiber amplifier for use in a next generation gravitational wave detector. In a preliminary project within the context of the Einstein telescope (E-Test), a laser system based on thulium
- as well as holmium-doped fibers has already been developed. This will be further developed with respect to different initial parameters in cooperation with the research partner Fraunhofer ILT.

Your tasks include:

- Working on publicly funded projects in the field of fundamental investigations of fiber lasers
- Planning, setup and execution of experiments and simulation models
- Supervision of student assistants and scientific theses
- Presentation of your results in scientific journals and at conferences (national and international)

The option to extend the contract may be available.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time position (50 % of the standard weekly hours for full-time employees).
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
