**Our Profile**:
ANTS searches and analyses in research and teaching for solutions and methods to make anthropogenic material flows recyclable. Thus, we aim to develop a raw material management at the product and material level as well as to demonstrate and to implement it by means of practical examples. With its previous expertise, the department is one of the leading research institutions in Europe in the field of mechanical and sensor-based processing technology. The ANTS combines the modelling and evaluation of processing and recycling processes with a view to entire product systems and life cycles in the sense of a circular economy and complements this expertise by technical implementation and demonstration.

**Your Profile**:
We are seeking a motivated research assistant with Bachelor's degree (f/m/d) to support a research project in collaboration with Remondis focused on the development of a sensor-based inline quality monitoring system for the processing of non-ferrous metal-bearing material flows. The project aims to automate material flow analysis, particularly the compositional analysis of product streams, in order to reduce manual effort and financial resources for the facility operator. The project involves the exploration of various machine and deep learning models for their applicability.

**To be successful in this role, you should possess the following**:

- Bachelor's degree and immatriculation in a consecutive course
- Interest in material cycles and life cycle analyses
- High motivation and strong communication skills
- Analytical thinking and ability to think abstractly
- Knowledge in image processing, machine/deep learning, or data science
- Familiarity with Jupyter Notebook / Visual Studio Code is a plus
- Interest in mechanical processing and sensor-based sorting / technologies
- Ability to work independently and a willingness to collaborate with a team
- Good English language skills (spoken and written)

**Your Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Support our scientific staff by independently conducting literature research, preparing and analyzing experimental data, and creating scientific figures.
- Conducting experiments in the laboratory and pilot plant
- Development of sensor-based methods in Python
- Data collection for the creation of a dataset of non-ferrous concentrates
- Handling general tasks as needed

**What We Offer**:
The position is to be filled by 4/1/2024 and offered for a fixed term for 3 months.
A long-term cooperation is highly desired
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 8 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 14,00 Euros per hour until 31.03.2024 and 15,20 Euros from 01.04.2024.
