**SUMMARY**

The position holder represents the medical interests of Alimera Sciences Ophthalmologie GmbH in Germany internally and externally. The purpose of the Medical Director is to provide leadership of the MSL team, oversight and strategic direction. The role facilitates and develops the relationship with the medical/scientific community, particularly with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) by communicating scientific and medical product -related information to doctors, investigators and institutions. Works with all internal stakeholders to align business objectives and contributes to the development and execution of strategic and tactical plans. The position works under the departmental guidance of the VP of EU Medical Affairs with a dotted line to Country Management.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Employee Management, Advisory Boards, external meetings /events.
- Responsible for strategic thought leader plans to provide needs-based, value-added services.
- Development and execution of strategic national “Podium Power Plan”.
- Support sales team/ marketing in the preparation and approval of promotional materials, Veeva.
- Support publication planning, slide-deck preparation and training initiatives.
- Identify and build relationships with international, national, regional or local KOLs for medical education and clinical research opportunities.
- Seen as a key internal stakeholder in delivery of cross-functional company activities at country and EU level.
- Develop compliance procedures, standard operating procedures and work instructions to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Being an expert in therapeutic area by both KOLs and internal company stakeholders, providing training to the MSL, Sales team and other groups.
- Collaboration with drug safety (pharmacovigilance).

**PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE**
- Strong science/clinical background with advanced degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) clinical experience, preferably in ophthalmology.
- Experience as Medical Director, Head of Medical or similar background desired.
- 10-12 years in pharmaceutical industry (sales, marketing, professional education or clinical research), or equivalent experience in healthcare management and a working knowledge of related fields.
- 5 years people management and leadership experience.
- Demonstrated excellence in current role; emphasis on leadership, management, product knowledge, flexibility, proven ability to develop and coach others.

- Identifies and recruits advocates/opinion leaders to address key problems, when and if they arise.
