Postdoctoral Computational Biologist

The RESIST Cluster of Excellence ( led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Schulz, Prof. Dr. Reinhold Förster, and Prof. Dr. Gesine Hansen, comprises over 50 research groups, all seeking to understand the variable susceptibility of individuals to infections and how treatments can be tailored to those most in need.
**Duties will include**
- The analysis of datasets generated by high-throughput sequencing (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore) and mass spectrometry
- Development and maintenance of bioinformatics workflows
- Communication with RESIST research groups to discuss present and future data analysis needs
- Contributing to the teaching of introductory bioinformatics courses for non-informaticians
**Our requirements**
- Demonstrated experience with command line programming, working on high performance computing clusters with job management systems (e.g., SLURM), coding and data analysis using Python, Perl, C/C++ and/or R, and usage of version control systems such as Git/GitHub
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis of bulk
- and single-cell RNA-Seq datasets, Mass spectrometry datasets, machine/deep learning approaches, and data visualization
- Demonstrated experience of assisting in the mentoring and training of graduate and undergraduate students
- Demonstrated experience in the fields of microbiology/virology, ideally with a focus on pathogen informatics
- Fluent English speaking and writing skills (German is beneficial but not required)
