Postdoctoral Position (M/F/d) in turbulent convection
Turbulent convection is ubiquitous in geophysics and astrophysics. This project will consist of studying the effect of rotation, magnetic field, or two scalars on convection in Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical geometries, using highly parallelized numerical tools.
Your Tasks
- Grasping the physics of turbulent rotating convection, magnetoconvection, double diffusive convection. We will pay special attention to the flow structure, heat, and momentum transfer.
- Running our code on several supercomputers and be prepared to run very big simulations.
- Analyzing the data and deriving some physical models.
- In the end, we will tackle the problem of melting under the effects of rotation or magnetic field.
You should have
- PhD in fluid dynamics, physics, or applied mathematics with a strong computational background.
- Experience in development of CFD code and in running on big clusters.
- Understanding turbulence or dynamo theory is a plus.
- Very good command of English (min B2-Level)
Employment Conditions
- Remuneration is according to the German public salary scale TVöD-Bund E13
- Social security benefits are in accordance with the public service regulations
The position is available from 1 June 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Initially the position is available for a period of one year, with the possibility of an extension for two or three additional years.
